Help & F.A.Q

We recommend that puppies have their 1st vaccination at 8 weeks old with the 2nd part given at 10 weeks. It then takes a further 2 weeks for the vaccine to be fully protective. Booster vaccinations are given annually.

We recommend that kittens have their 1st vaccination at 9 weeks old with the second part given at 12 weeks. It then takes a further 2 weeks for the vaccine to be fully protective. Booster vaccinations are given annually.

We recommend that all dogs and cats are micro-chipped as many pets do go missing for various reasons. When you have your puppy or kitten vaccinated will depend on their size and age but generally the vet will chip them at their 1st or 2nd vaccinations. For more information on micro-chipping go to:www.identichip.co.uk

We advise that rabbits are vaccinated against Myxomatosis and Viral Haemorrhagic Disease. Rabbits can be vaccinated from 6 weeks of age however we recommend that the vaccines are given with a 2 week interval between them.

This is a personal decision that you need to make for your pet. Our general advice is that if a dog or cat is not going to be used for legitimate breeding or showing then they should be neutered. Some health and behavioural problems can be avoided by neutering as can unwanted litters or mis-matings. Our vets will be happy to discuss all the options with you.

We recommend that all pets are insured. Veterinary bills can be expensive and can’t always be planned for! There are lots of insurance policies available and we would recommend that you take your time and find the right policy for you.

If you feel that your needs to be seen by a vet out of hours or on weekends or bank holidays, we provide our own emergency service. This means that you will see the same vets and nurses that you would during the week and they will have access to all your pets records. This helps to provide the best level of care for your pet. Out of hours work is subject to additional charges.

Your pet will need to be micro-chipped and vaccinated for Rabies. They will then need a blood test to confirm that the vaccination has been effective. The vet will then issue a pet passport that can be used to travel to and from EU countries. Specific information for each country can be found at: www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/pets/travel/pets

If it is injured – take it to your local vets who will provide emergency treatment. If you are unable to transport it, contact the RSPCA who can advise about collection.

If it is unharmed – see www.rspca.org.uk/allaboutanimals/helpandadvice/straycats for advice.

Some clients will be eligible for help from the PDSA VetCare charity if they live in the correct post code area and have registered with the PDSA. Please go to: www.pdsa.org.uk/pdsa-vet-care/eligibility for more information.

The RSPCA or Cats Protection League may be able to help with the cost of neutering or emergency treatment but this would be on a case by case basis and it is down to the owner of the pet to contact these charities.
